Privacy

Your notifications stay on your phone. They are stored in a database only Notify can read, they are never uploaded, and they are deleted automatically once they pass your retention window.

The app does use the internet for two things, and neither of them carries your notification content: the feedback message you write and send yourself, and the advertising that keeps Notify free. Both are described in full below.

When notification access is switched on, Notify stores, for each notification:

• the app that posted it, by name and package
• the title and body text
• the category and channel the app assigned
• the time it was posted

That is the whole of it. Notify does not record your screen, your location, your contacts, your accounts, your files, or anything you type outside the app.

Nowhere. Notification content is never transmitted, sold or shared. It is not sent to the developer, to the advertising network, or to any other service. There is no account to sign in to and no server holding a copy.

It is written to Notify's private storage, which Android prevents other apps from reading. It is not written to shared storage and does not appear in your gallery or files.

The one exception is a PDF you export yourself. Choosing Download PDF opens your device's own file picker, and the file is written only to the place you pick. From that point it is an ordinary file: it is outside Notify's private storage, other apps may be able to read it, it is not covered by your retention window, and deleting your history in Notify does not delete it.

Feedback you send. If you fill in the Feedback screen and tap Send, that request goes to Formspree, which forwards it to the support address. It contains only your message, the email address you optionally supply, and the app version and device model shown to you on that screen before you send. Formspree processes it under their own privacy policy.

Advertising. Notify shows ads supplied by Google AdMob, which requires a network connection. This is described in the next section.

Notify is free and is funded by advertising served through Google AdMob. To serve, measure and limit the repetition of ads, Google may collect:

• your device's advertising ID
• your IP address, and an approximate location derived from it
• device and app information, such as model, operating system version and app version
• whether an ad was shown, viewed or tapped

Your notification content is never shared with the advertising network. Ads are requested with no information about what your notifications contain, which apps sent them, or how many you have. Nothing from your history is used to select an ad.

Google's use of this data is governed by how Google uses information from sites or apps that use their services.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, Notify asks for your consent before any ad is requested, using Google's certified consent form. No ad is requested until you have answered, and declining means no ads are shown at all. You can review or change your choices at any time from Settings → Ad privacy in the app, which appears only where that form applies.

Anywhere else, you can limit this on your device at any time: open Android Settings → Privacy → Ads (the exact path varies by manufacturer) to delete or reset your advertising ID, or to opt out of ad personalisation. Doing so does not remove ads, but it does stop them being personalised.

Android's own backup is enabled for Notify, so your notification history may be included in the encrypted device backup your phone makes to your Google account. That backup is handled by Android and Google, not by Notify, and the developer has no access to it. You can turn it off for all apps in your system backup settings.

Until it passes your retention window — 30 days unless you change it to 60, 90 or 180 — at which point it is deleted automatically. A sweep runs once a day and again each time you open the app. Shortening the window deletes the newly-expired notifications immediately.

• Pause capture for any individual app, from the By app screen
• Delete a single notification, or everything from one app
• Clear the entire history at once, from Settings
• Export one app's history as a PDF, saved wherever you choose
• Change the retention window at any time
• Revoke notification access in system settings to stop recording altogether
• Uninstall the app, which deletes its database with it

If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have rights over your personal information. Because of how Notify is built, most of them are already in your hands.

Access, correction and deletion. There is no server copy for anyone to hand over, correct or erase. Your history exists only on your device: you can read it in the app, delete any single notification or one app's worth, or clear all of it from Settings. Uninstalling removes it entirely.

Sale of personal information. Notify does not sell your personal information, and notification content is never sold or shared with anyone.

Sharing for targeted advertising. The advertising data described above — your advertising ID, IP address and device details — is passed to Google so ads can be served. Under several of these laws that counts as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising, or as “targeted advertising”, even though no money changes hands. You can opt out at any time from Settings → Ad privacy in the app, or by turning off ad personalisation in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.

Sensitive personal information. Notify does not collect or process sensitive personal information for advertising.

No penalty for opting out. Nothing about the app changes if you opt out. Every feature stays available and no history is withheld.

Notifications often contain messages written by other people. Because that content stays on your device, you are the one who controls it — please treat it with the same care you would the messages themselves.

Notify is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from children.

This page changes when the app does. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.

Questions about privacy go through the app's Feedback screen: open Settings → Send feedback in Notify and write your message there. It reaches the developer directly, and you can add your email address if you would like a reply.
